How does the Segway work?
The Segway PT works just like the human body: when we walk,
we first lean forward and then take a step, regaining our balance. If we lean
back, we take a step back to stabilize ourselves.
The Segway works just like the human body: when we walk, we first lean forward and then take a step, regaining our balance. If we lean back, we take a step back to stabilize ourselves. With a Segway, when leaning forwards or backwards, the machine rolls the wheels in the direction in which the user has leaned, to place them below their center of gravity. We call this proprietary technology dynamic stabilization. The turn is produced with the Leeanster handlebar moving it to the right or to the left, and being able to turn in a radius of 360ยบ on its own axis (zero turning radius).
With a Segway PT, when leaning forwards or backwards, the
machine rolls the wheels in the direction in which the user has leaned, to
place them below their center of gravity.
This is the basis of the movement of the Segway PT and for
this reason it is so natural and intuitive to operate.
Dynamic Stabilization Technology
Segway's Smart MotionTM technology – or dynamic
stabilization technology – is why the Segway PT can balance on its two wheels
and move by tilting the user's body.
This technology consists of an intelligent network of
sensors, hoverboard seat, mechanical components and control systems, whose main function is to
keep the Segway PT in the proper plane and control forward or backward movement
and braking. During the use of the Segway PT, five gyroscopes and two
inclination sensors detect changes in the terrain and the position of the
user's body at a rate of 100 times per second, providing precise information
for the correct response of the device.
The LeanSteer Handlebar
The Segway PT's left/right turn and lateral stability are
controlled by using the LeanSteer handlebar and leaning your body to one side
or the other, keeping it in line with the handlebar. In this way, the lateral
movement is also natural and intuitive, by using the inclination of the body to
turn and to maintain verticality on terrain with a lateral inclination.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A FAILURE OCCURS WITH THE REDUNDANT SYSTEM
The system is designed so that the two control units run the
system together and at the same time, so that if one of the two systems detects
a fault in one of its components, it allows the other system to activate an
emergency stop.
If the emergency stop is activated, the system stops the
Segway and alerts the user through vibration and an acoustic alarm, giving the
user 10 seconds to
Get off the device in a controlled and safe way.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A FAILURE OCCURS IN A DEVICE WITHOUT A
REDUNDANT SYSTEM
The stabilization and propulsion systems of self-balancing
personal transports depend on the correct functioning of all its components. In
the event of
A failure, segway cart, since there is no auxiliary component that
assumes the function of the failed element, the device will not be able to
maintain said function.
In the event of a hypothetical failure in a device without a
redundant system, the most likely result would be a sudden stop and loss of
balance of the machine, which would drop
The user suddenly, with the consequent risk of injury.
